Memorial Day Weekend

We had plans to go to the beach for the weekend and they got squashed by the landscapers finally deciding to start working on our retaining wall in the back yard at the end of last week - YAY
We decided last minute to go to the lake instead.  Our weekend went a little like this.  One super early morning riser followed by a super long nap when we arrived at the lake so Mommy and Daddy got to lay out in peace for an entire two hours, boat ride with friends and a happy little dancing queen, splashing on the new float, spending a few hours with some fun friends, lots of delicious food on the grill, getting rained out of Monday and coming home early, one giant toddler tantrum resulting in an almost equal sized mom tantrum that I am not too proud of, and popcorn and a movie snuggles before Chad had to go back to work today.  It was a relaxing weekend for the most part and the lake is so much fun this year with the nugget!

Hopefully we will have a back yard by the end of this week if the weather cooperates.  I would have never thought we would go to these lengths or spend this much money just to have a kid friendly back yard, my how times have changed ;)  I am so excited for the finished product and having a safe and fun place to play with the kiddos (insane that we are about to have two!)

I hope everyone had a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend.  We are so thankful for those who serve and pay the price for our freedom in the greatest country in the world.  God Bless America!

Mother's Day Weekend

We survived our week alone and Chad got home just in time Friday night to read a couple of books with Olivia before she went to bed.  Even though he was worn out from a week of travel he agreed to get up early and head to the lake Saturday because I have been dying to go!
It was a perfect day for the lake.  Sunny, warm and just what we needed to relax. Last year Olivia had to wear an awful life jacket that squished her little face and neck and she was pretty miserable the whole time she had it on.  I tried a puddle-jumper this year and so far she loves it.  Not once did she complain about putting it on or ask to take it off.  She was all smiles headed to the water.

We went for a couple of boat rides since the water is still a little chilly to get in.  Olivia even got to help Grandaddy drive the boat ;).  She loved riding on the boat and even skipped her nap since we were only up there for the day.

You know I had to YOLO with my giant belly and baby on the front.

It was such a fun day and I cannot wait to go back as many times as possible before our summer comes to an abrupt halt when baby boy arrives.

Sunday we went to church and when we got back to the nursery to pick Olivia up the medical responders were there checking on her.  Apparently she took a tumble and had a red mark on her head and a few tears, but she was fine.  It is never a good feeling thinking your baby might be hurt though.  We had lunch plans with my fam and we were running early so we decided to stop by the park and snap a few pictures....mistake.  Olivia pitched a huge fit because I wouldn't let her wear her Elsa flip flops with her pretty dress and then only wanted to throw flowers in the creek instead of smile or even look at the camera.  The fun continued at lunch with approximately 19 meltdowns over this or that.  By the time we finished eating I was sore and sweaty and felt like shedding a few tears of my own.  We came home and all three of us took a nap and woke up in much better moods :)  Chad did some laundry and picked up Milos for dinner and I rested on the couch for most of the evening watching baby boy dance around in my belly, which is all I could ask for these days.  It was a lovely weekend and went by way too fast as usual.

I am so thankful my sweet little family and my mom who is always there for me.  I am amazed every day that God entrusted me with these two little lives.  I hope everyone had a very blessed Mother's Day and Happy Monday friends!

6 Days Solo

Chad had a work conference this week in Chicago so it was just me and the babe all week long.
We have really missed him, but still managed to have a pretty fun time by ourselves.

Monday morning came early thanks to a 6am wake up call through the monitor. This kid cracks me up so much.  Every morning I hear a sweet little voice say "Oh Mommy, where are you, where are you my Mommy??"  Our monitor allows me to talk back to her and if I don't answer soon enough she starts calling for other people, Daddy, Nana, Ash, Ava, Huddy Buddy and Allie Kate are her go-to's.  On the plus side of being up at the crack of dawn we finally made it to Doughnut Joe's before they ran out of goodies!  I had to skip out on the sweetness until after my doctor's appointment though, I had my fasting glucose test, which I passed - whoo-hoo.  Perhaps its the fist fulls of reese's cups or the cans of cake icing I have been devouring that helped me process all that sugar ;)
Baby Jack is measuring 2 weeks ahead of schedule, which means nothing other than I am gonna have a huge baby, yikes!  He is healthy and growing great though, couldn't ask for anything better.

Tuesday we celebrated Cinco De Mayo with a festive lunch with some of our besties.  I found some balloons and blew them up which provided at least 20 minutes of entertainment so I could prepare for the fiesta.

I kept the menu simple with cheese dip, salsa and chips as sides and chicken quesadillas as the main attraction.

They were a big hit so I thought I would share the recipe :)
4-6 boneless, skinless chicken breast
1 pkg taco seasoning
1 can rotel tomatoes drained
1 cup of your favorite salsa
Add ingredients to crock pot and cook on low for 4 hours, then shred chicken

To make the quesadillas:
I use a griddle pan on the stove
butter the pan, add 1 small (soft taco size) tortilla
sprinkle cheese ( I used the taco blend cheese with monteray jack and cheddar)
spread chicken over cheese
go ahead and put some more cheese on top now, don't be shy
lay another tortilla on top and let the cheese melt and then flip browning both sides
(continue the process of buttering the pan before each quesadilla you make)

They are super easy to make and you can use the chicken for lots of other dishes too!
We had a really fun play date and the kids really enjoyed playing together and chowing down.

Wednesday I realized that Mother's day is this Sunday and I had nothing bought so we took a trip to the mall and to grab lunch with our bud Lindsey.  Olivia found the fountain and was mesmerized.  The weather this week has been amazing..and HOT!  I can already tell this summer is going to be a doozie in my enlarged state ;)

I had a much needed haircut Thursday morning and by 10:30 am it was already 81 degrees.  I put my freshly blown out locks in a pony tail and we had some fun in the sun.  She thought it was especially funny to splash me with the freezing cold hose pipe water.

Another 6am morning meant getting out of the house early today.  We packed a bad a headed to see the cousins and to the splash pad for the first time this year.

They all had so much fun and I might have even gotten a little sun on this super pasty skin.  I have a feeling we are going to be there a lot this summer.  With the temperatures climbing close to 90 today it really felt like summer and we loved it!

Now we have nothing to do but anxiously await Daddy's arrival home later tonight!  I have missed him so much and I cannot wait for him to come home. I am sure Olivia is ready for someone other than me to look at too ;)  My hat goes off to all the single mamas out there.  This week has been challenging at the least.  Juggling this big belly and an almost 2 year old all week alone has worn me slap out!  I hope everyone has a very happy weekend and a Happy Mother's Day to all the mommy's out there :)

Our Weekend

Our weekends have been so jam packed lately and this one was no exception.  Olivia is still working on getting her last two year molar and is in full on beast mode most of the time, meaning waking up at 6:30am and turning into a no-nap ninja around 2pm.  We decided to take an afternoon trip to the park after Chad got home from work to let her burn off some energy.  This girl loves the park, fwinging and sliding are her favorites.  Chad obliged my mexican craving after the park and then it was home to get the critter in the bed early.

We spent most of the day on Saturday finishing up the nursery, more on that later. We have both been working so hard and I am happy to say that baby Jack's room is finally complete, for now ;).  I still have some more work to do in Olivia's big girl room, but I cannot wait to share it too!  I have been nesting like crazy.  I can proudly say that all of our closets have been cleaned out and color coordinated.  Also realized I do not need to buy one more article of clothing for any human in this house.

Sunday after church my little teething monster threw the biggest fit of her whole life, lasted about 30 minutes and ended with both of us in tears and at our whits end.  I might also add that I am an emotional mess right now.  We were supposed to go to a cousin's birthday party, but I decided someone needed a nap instead.  After a much needed nap we went outside to enjoy some sunshine.  Chad set Olivia's little pool up with her slide going into it and she had so much fun playing.
We spent the rest of the evening winding down watching Disney together as a family on the couch.  Those are some of my favorite moments.  I love snuggling with my sweet little family.  Hard to believe in 2 short months we will have another member to snuggle!
